As per the sanatan Hindu Lunar Calendar, the Astami tithi in the month of Bhadra every year, is specially celebrated as the Birthday of Lord Krishna. This tithi is also observed as Krishna Janmastmi. On this auspicious day the temples of Sri Krishna are decorated and in the presence of thousands of devotees this festival is celebrated with joy and happiness. These days, short special programs are also organised in schools to celebrate this festival among children.
